When certain temperatures are reached, the Lunzer See lake freezes over and becomes a wonderful natural ice rink, which is not only useable for skates, but also on cross-country skis.

If you want to enjoy the silence away from the slopes, the best thing to do is to go cross-country skiing. In Lackenhof am Ötscher, cross-country skiers can choose between eight trails. 27 kilometres – classic and skating – with quiet vantage points on the Ötscher run through the entire village.

The ski area Ötscher in the middle of the idyllic winter village Lackenhof in Lower Austria offers everything your heart desires, from the Sunny Kids Park and the Snowpark to the racetrack. Sports enthusiasts as well as families and après-ski friends of all ages feel at home here.
The Ötscher is a paradise for winter sports lovers and the right place for families looking for a varied, affordable and car-free skiing holiday. Everyone in the village at the foot of the Ötscher will find 19 kilometres of slopes, nine lift systems and fair lift pass prices practically in front of their front door. In the Sunny Kids Park even the smallest ski bunnies are welcome.
Advanced learners for instance get their money’s worth on the large Ötscher slope, the ripple downhill slope and the FIS race route for giant slalom, slalom and Super G. Freestylers on both skis and boards will have fun in the Ötscher snow park.

Lackenhof has a lot to offer for winter sports enthusiasts. There are steep slopes for skiing & snowboarding, perfectly groomed cross-country skiing trails and two constantly signposted tours for snowshoe hikes:

Fancy a guided snowshoe tour? Also no problem! Every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. it’s time to strap on your snowshoes and walk with a guide for one and a half hours through the winter landscape. You are in even better shape? Then the two-hour tour is the right choice!

In Lackenhof, twelve kilometres of winter hiking trails are prepared especially for winter hikers, leading alongside the cross-country ski tracks around the Ötscher village.
50 kilometres of cleared winter hiking trails invite you to become active off-piste in Göstling. We recommend a hike into the romantic Steinbachtal valley or from farmhouse to farmhouse in Hochreit (route: 5 km).
The family-friendly ski areas and the wide range of off-piste activities guarantee an unforgettable stay in the Ybbstal Alps region.
The winter sports paradises of Hochkar, Ötscher and Forsteralm, but also the small ski areas of Maiszinken and Königsberg, are characterised by quality. Cross-country skiers are welcome in Göstling-Hochreit and Lackenhof-Ötscher as well as on the Seeauloipe not far from Lunzer See lake, which turns into a unique ice-skating rink if the ice is thick enough. The Ybbstal brine bath in Göstling promises relaxation after a long day of skiing or a snowshoe tour.
